Swire Properties Takes Leading Position In “Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark” (“GRESB") And Tops “Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index" Again

Swire Properties announced today that its sustainable development (SD) efforts have once again been recognised both locally and globally.

In the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB), the Company has been named Global Sector Leader (Mixed Use Sector) for the seventh year in a row and retained its Global Development Sector Leader (Mixed Use Sector) title for the fourth consecutive year. During this edition of the Benchmark, there was a 15% increase in participation by over 2,000 companies globally – covering approximately 170,000 assets with a gross asset value of USD7.2 trillion across 75 countries.

At a local level, Swire Properties has ranked 1st in the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index (HSSUS) for the sixth consecutive year, achieving the highest score among over 500-assessed Hong Kong-listed companies; while also maintaining the highest “AAA” rating – a distinction that was only awarded to two companies this year.

Tim Blackburn, Chief Executive of Swire Properties, said, “We’re delighted to be recognised once again by multiple leading ESG indices and benchmark ratings around the world, which is recognition of our many pioneering sustainability programmes with multiple stakeholders. These initiatives, such as the Green Performance Pledge and the Green Kitchen Initiative, are tailor-made for our office and F&B tenants, helping them achieve their ESG goals and maximising environmental performance. More importantly, these accolades prove that collective action is the best way to build vibrant and resilient communities where people and businesses can thrive.”

2023 GLOBAL REAL ESTATE SUSTAINABILITY BENCHMARK
In addition to obtaining top rankings in the GRESB, the Company achieved the second highest score of 97 – among all participants; climbing a substantial five points since last year. This achievement demonstrates Swire Properties’ leadership in enhancing asset-level environmental performance across its diverse portfolio for both landlord and tenants.

HANG SENG CORPORATE SUSTAINABILITY INDEX
The HSSUS revamped its assessment framework this year to focus on three core aspects – “Environment”, “Social” and “Governance”. Swire Properties achieved the highest score in the “Social” aspect among all assessed companies, further confirmation of the Company’s exemplary performance in key areas of Human Rights, Labour Practices, Fair Operating Practices, Consumer Issues and Community Involvement and Development.

What’s more, Swire Properties was listed in the Hang Seng ESG 50 Index for the fourth consecutive year since its launch. This index features the top 50 performing and listed ESG leaders, with relatively high market-capitalisation in Hong Kong.
